DEC 18: LET THERE BE LIGHT
You might wonder why the classroom looks dark in many of the photos taken during charcoal drawing. Well, we turn off the lights to take advantage of the natural morning light coming through the windows. Further away from the windows, I might add lamps in certain directions. By turning off the overhead fluorescent light, the natural light creates shadows, lending more depth to what the children are drawing, thus making it easier to convey volume and space on a flat piece paper.
SEPT 25: SOMETHING TO PRACTICE
Spend more time looking at the subject you are drawing and less and less time looking at your paper.
SEPT 7: WE RECYCLE
Dried up markers? Don't throw them out just yet! Soak them in water to create liquid watercolors. Store in squeeze bottles to dole out. The kids can use brushes but it's more fun to use eye droppers to paint! Keep the caps to use in a mosaic or sculpture. Plus, Crayola accepts old markers for recycling (check out their website, they pay for shipping).
We are collecting and recycling some things that might otherwise end up in your trash! In addition to our Wishlist (below), we could use the following items:
1. Old Sheets (solid color)
2. Your Unwanted Art Supplies/Latex House Paint
3. Plastic Bottles (16 oz, 1 liter, 2 liter) please remove labels, if possible, to save us a step!
4. Transparent Plastic Cups (any size, any color, but see-through)
5. Beach Rocks (flatter, rounded and smooth are best for our planned stacking and
perhaps painting if we have enough)
No donation is too small! Cash or Gift Cards to Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot, Michael's, and Joann's will purchase supplies to allow us to experiment with more varied materials. Anything we receive will be much appreciated.
