**Math and Science - Grades 6, 7, 8 **

Grade 6 Math: We will be reviewing place value, rounding, all operations with decimals and exponents. Then we will cover algebraic expressions, and solving one-step algebraic equations and inequalities. This can be found in chapters 1 through 4 in the textbook.

**Grade 7 Math:** We will start the year learning operations with integers, found in chapter 5 of the textbook. In chapter 6, we will introduce solving equations and inequalities, writing algebraic expressions and equations, relationships and functions, and graphing equations.

**Grade 8 Algebra I:** We will first introduce students to algebraic properties of equality, identity, substitution, distributive, commutative and associative. Simplifying expressions will also be covered and logical reasoning, using conditional statements. Chapter 2 will focus on operations with real numbers as well as working with square roots. Finally, Chapter 3 will teach students about solving linear equations.

**Grade 6 Science:** Students will begin learning about lab safety, the scientific method and practice using safe lab techniques while completing their first science lab. We will then begin with chapter 13 in the textbook, Matter. What is matter, how is it measured, finding density, properties of matter, and states of matter.

**Grade 7 & 8 Science: **Students will begin with a review of the scientific method. We will cover this topic in depth, as we do every year in preparation for the annual science fair. We will then begin studying Astronomy, which covers telescopes, mapping the sky, stars, solar systems and galaxies.
