Mrs. Ferreira and I are so impressed with the progress this class is making. During this time of the year, the children have fewer distractions now that the holidays are over and are able to focus on learning. It is so exciting to see so many starting to read to the class! It is hard to believe we are halfway through the school year!
There is no school on Monday as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Please remember hats, mittens or gloves, and warm coats. We do try to go outside if it is possible. The entire class is doing a terrific job putting on their winter gear and zippering their coats by themselves. We are very happy they are so independent, and they are very proud of themselves.
The spelling test will be given on Wednesday. The class did a nice job on the spelling test last week. Mrs. Ferreira and I will continue to send home a sight word practice assignment before the weekly spelling test to help the children review the words. A written practice spelling test at home is a good way to prepare for the weekly spelling test. Keep up the super work! Again, it is amazing to see how well the class is doing! Thank you.
The class did a great job on the Daily Sentence Homework this week! As you upload the sentence each day into Google Classroom, we will correct it and post a comment each day the assignment is due. Monday - completed, Tuesday - completed, etc. Any corrections and comments can be seen in the edited version of the PDF in the assignment. The grade will be worth 25 points per day, totaling 100 points by the end of the week. Two or three-day weeks will be adjusted to equal 100 points. This is the first time we are trying it in Google Classroom, so we will see how this works for everyone. Thank you for your help with this assignment.
Mrs. Ferreira and I are so happy to see the children reading every night and completing the Reading Log Calendar. This calendar will be posted in the Reading Room topic as a material so that if you need another copy for any reason, you will be able to reprint it. Please keep this log in your child’s folder, so it will go home and come back to school daily. Even though it will stay in your child’s folder, Mrs. Ferreira and I will be able to view it. This reading homework needs to be completed daily in order for your child to receive their morning star. Thank you for your support with this assignment.
We will continue taking the Renaissance STAR Early Literacy Assessment on the Chrome Books this week. You will be receiving the results with your child’s report card next month. Should I feel a need to speak to you sooner, I will contact you to discuss your child’s progress.
If your child is planning on entering the 2021 Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest, please send the best copy back to school by Friday, January 22nd. Good luck and try your best!
